Welcome to this job prospects guide that has been written to provide information and support to those mineworkers and families affected by the Selby Mine closures.

No-one likes to think about redundancy but many of us do have to face it at least once in our lives. All of us know people who have been or will be made redundant at some point.

This guide aims to provide practical information and advice and has been written for the mineworkers and their families who are facing difficult decisions about their futures because of the closures at the Selby Mine complex.

In your current job you will be using certain skills - some of these could be used in another industry. However, you may need to retrain, which will take time, and you need to be aware that salaries in other industries can be lower than you are used to. This guide aims to help you and your family members to think about these issues.
