Future employment forecasts in Yorkshire

 

It is difficult to forecast properly what will happen to different industries in the area.

As a guide:

  • The hotel and catering industries are forecast to need more staff from now right up to 2012 in the Selby, Barnsley and Wakefield areas
  • The number of workers required in the construction industry may peak in the next few years and decline slightly in Selby and Barnsley after that. They will probably remain steady in the Wakefield area up to 2012
  • Food and drink manufacturing businesses are likely to need fewer staff over the next ten years
  • Businesses in the electrical and optical industries are likely to require more staff.
